I Was Told There'd Be Cake - Sloane Crosley I know I'm not exactly the target market for this but it was given to me and I am a big fan of snark. David Sedaris is one of a handful of authors who can make me laugh out loud. I thought this was going to be stereotypical stories from a poor recent grad from a semi-elite college out East who struggled all the way up from publishing intern in NYC to best-seller at the ripe old age of 29. There was a little bit of that and a healthy dose of "if you're not in NYC, you're nowhere" thrown in, but I could relate to more of it than I thought I would because of familiarity with her cultural context. In other words I warmed to it as its appeal widened to include the reader a little bit more.
