This story takes a long time to get moving. Around page 100, I was wondering when things were going to start picking up. Ultimately, I think it suffers from being book 1 of a trilogy. There's no pressure to resolve the story. Plus, there are a lot of side scenes that are kind of interesting, but they distract, take too long to unfold, and do not advance the plot. I'm probably not going to keep going in the series, which is unusual for me.
